Ms. Wheeler is a 2003 graduate of the University of Kansas, earning a B.S. with honors, and a 2006 graduate of Washburn University School of Law magna cum laude. While in undergraduate school Kristen majored in Biodiversity, Ecology, and Evolutionary Biology. She carried her love of the natural sciences through to law school, where in addition to her J.D. she earned a Certificate in Natural Resources Law with distinction. Kristen served as a Technical Editor for the 2005-2006 edition of the Washburn Law Journal and was the author of “Homeland Security and Environmental Regulation: Balancing Long-Term Environmental Goals with Immediate Security Needs,” for which she won the 2005-2006 GNIP-GNOP award for best Washburn Law Journal Note. Ms. Wheeler has an active ligation practice and has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in jury trials and bench trials as well as multiple appellate matters. She specializes in the areas of civil litigation, appellate practice, intellectual property law, environmental law, real estate litigation, and mortgage and consumer finance litigation.
In her free time, you can likely find Kristen running, as she’s an avid participant in distance races and enjoys running several half-marathons and marathons every year. She also enjoys yoga and dance and served as the lead choreographer for the 2016 Wichita Bar Show, a full-length Broadway-style musical and political satire written, staged, choreographed, and performed entirely by Wichita attorneys and judges. Kristen is married to Phil and a stepmom of two boys who keep the family very busy. Together they like to travel, watch movies, and spend time with friends and family.
